1970.01.01

Release date:2019.12.08

The Fourth Session of the First Governing Board of the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI) notified the adjustment of the governing board members, and presented the 2019 work summary and 2020 work plan of UNESCO-ICHEI. The 2020 budget arrangement of the Innovation Center was reviewed, and the next phase of work was discussed and deployed.

The governing board approved the adjustment of UNESCO representatives as candidates of the governing board and Chen Qiuming, director of the Education Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, will serve as the governing board member.

Li Ming, director of UNESCO-ICHEI, reported the work progress in 2019 and the work plan for 2020. Li Ming said that under the leadership of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government and under the guidance of the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, UNESCO-ICHEI has actively responded to the Belt and Road Intiative and fully exerted its main functions of Knowledge Production, Capacity Building, Technical Support, and Information Sharing since its establishement. UNESCO-ICHEI works closely around the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Education 2030) in every respect. With the support of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), UNESCO-ICHEI has delivered a series of effective programmes in the field of global higher education.

Wang Lixin suggested three expectations for the work of UNESCO-ICHEI. First is to further diversify and present the work, and form a greater influence in Shenzhen and the UNESCO system. Second, take the initiative to serve Belt and Road Initiative. In addition to focusing on UNESCO's principle on Priority Africa by developing programmes in African countries, UNESCO-ICHEI should also consider promoting its activity in Southeast Asia and other regions. Third, it is necessary to facilitate the international development of higher education in Shenzhen. Higher education in Shenzhen is now facing unprecedented opportunities. UNESCO-ICHEI should build a platform to strengthen its communication and relationship with higher education institutions around the world, initiate talent exchange and scientific and technological cooperation to promote the international development of Shenzhen.
